I have spoken to an insurance person on the issue of potential liability in the area of LARP and general situations.
The recommendation from him was if this is to work, a waiver form that releases PK from liability during LARP combat events and that the person shuld carry thier own insurance.
Another option was to obtain some special funding program that further reduces liabilty by having trained EMTs with up to date equipement on site and a facility available for emergency care.
Otherwise the site should cost upwards to $8000 per year for insurance. THis is on a 1 million dollar general liability coverage set-up.

I think that the cost of the insurance is the least of the worries. More important what kind of issues are we expected to have at such a locale?

You will find that Amtgard has many qualified EMTs, military medics, and Red Cross certified individuals within our ranks. If you are going to really do this, some kind of general insurance will be necessary to simply protect yourself and the castle. A waiver is not enough to sign injury away in the state of Wisconsin. In essence, you can be sued regardless of whether a waiver was signed, which has been a big issue in determining whether our group will go through with full-fledged incorporation or not.

The issues all depend on the setup of the castle and the lands.

Hmm, you present an interesting point. There is a lot to say about incorporation. I am sure there will be further recommendatin by insurance in the future. We'll have to call this after the map has been set.
